The Witches' gorge in Ciężkowice

Information

The Witches' gorge is one of the most interesting places in Ciężkowice. It is located near the more famous Petrified City inanimate nature reserve. The gorge, about 70 meters long, ends with a 10-meter-high cascade of the Ostruszanki stream, known as the Waterfall of the Witches. Its walls rise up to a height of 25 meters there. In their numerous crevices and cracks, on rock ledges and protrusions, ferns and other shade-loving and moisture-loving plants grow, many of which are protected. The sun's rays do not reach the bottom of the gorge, which is why the place has a specific microclimate and atmosphere. The name of the ravine refers to the old tales of witches celebrating Sabbaths in this place. According to other legends, local robbers were hiding stolen loots in the local ravines and dams.
