Information

The waterfall in Sopotnia Wielka is the highest waterfall in the Beskidy Mountains, and at the same time in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is located in the center of the town, on the stream bearing the same name as the village - Sopotnia Wielka. The Sopotnia stream has a rocky, deeply cut into the ground riverbed. Below the waterfall it is 12-15 m deep. It is built of sandstone. On the Sopotnia Wielka stream there are numerous rock thresholds with small waterfalls. It is located at an altitude of 620 m above sea level and is 10 m high. It is a rare case of a cataclysmic waterfall where the layers of rock fall steeply in the same direction as the water course. The flowing water then flows into a 5 m deep recovery boiler, the bottom of which is covered with oblique rock ribs. Due to the nature of the bottom and strong water swirls, swimming in this place is not allowed. Nearby, there is also a monument to the inhabitants who died during World War II.
