Information

Weavers' Houses in Chełmsko Śląskie are one of the most valuable and interesting monuments in the region. It is a complex of twelve houses, the so-called "Twelve Apostles" from 1707, erected on the initiative of the Cistercians from Krzeszów for Czech linen weavers. There were twelve houses of the Apostles, but eleven have survived to this day, because one building - called Judas - burned down. Until now, the houses on Sądecka Street have retained their characteristic layout: protruding gables and arcades covering the entrance, and people live in them to this day. Some of the houses are open to the public. One of them, houses the Weaving Chamber of the Association for the Development of Chełmska Śląskie, Weavers Śląscy, where visitors can admire antique reels, looms, irons with a soul and items related to weaving. The association, which was established in 1989, is i.a. organizer of the Silesian Weavers Fair, held annually in August and aimed at promoting the tradition of the region and its monuments, and thus, reviving a declining town through the development of tourism.
