Sopot Pier (Polish: Sopot Molo) is the longest building of this type at Baltic Sea as its length is about 0.5 km. The first pier in Sopot was constructed in 1827 so, the building has long tradition in Sopot. Recreational areas not only include the pier itself but also 20 000 m2 square. The lighthouse (Polish: Latarnia Morska Sopot) was originally built in 1904 as a chimney for a newly constructed balneotherapy centre and its purpose did not change util 1975. With a major overhaul of the centre’s heating system the old chimney became redundant.
